Capsula Mundi - Life never stops
I would love to be someone's breathes, someone's shade and someone’s reason to live
even after my death. Have you ever thought about the life beyond death?

The Earth needs its people to be more intelligent towards its future and take the best possible
decisions at all times in order to protect the environment for future generations. The whole world’s
natural ecosystem depends on the land, the soil. That is from where the food we eat, the water we
drink and the air we breathe comes. Humans are responsible for polluting it in numerous ways that
we will regret soon (FAO, 2018). All around the globe the land surface human use as cemeteries
continues to grow with the increasing population and scientists could not find a better way to die
without harming the environment. Critical condition is that there are thousands of environmental
organizations to question and protest towards the harming hazards for the environment but when it
comes burial of a dead body loaded with chemicals with a coffin that made of timber so precious like
Mahogany to Pine which is available everywhere. Without putting a stop there are Metal coffins
which are never going to dispose of and remain there forever completely polluting the soil
(The remembrance process, n.d). In Jiangxi, China the government has banned coffins and burials
under Zero Burial policy, in order to save the land and this has brought the public into roads
(South China Morning Post, 2018). With the growing population in the world and especially in
a country like China – the country with the world’s highest population, saving land for people is more
important than anything. According to Calderone (2018) in the process of preparing the dead body
to the public showcase, it goes through a rough time called Embalming. Here the dead body gets
injected with a whole load of chemicals such as formaldehyde, phenol, methanol, glycerin and etc.
Every year one and a quarter Olympic sized swimming pools can be filled by these chemicals which
get buried in the ground with dead bodies. It is more than 800, 000 gallons and it is a huge issue that
cannot be seen yet. As per the US estimates every year they bury around 30 million board feet of
hardwoods, 106, 972 tons of metal and 1, 636, 000 tons of concrete with dead bodies in the ground
and with the increasing population; Yes! It is a big question mark regarding the future. Estimate brings
the point that the wood used in making coffins is equivalent to 4 million acres of forest and if they use
those woods in making homes that would be 4.5 million homes which are quite surprising. All these
figures just from the USA and if these estimate collected from all countries around the world, countries
who keep on researching nuclear weapons will start looking for more smarter ways to bury dead
bodies tomorrow.

The environmentally responsible behavior theory created by Hines, Hungerford and Tomera explains
the fact that how human behavior makes impacts on the environments and the responsibility is shared
among everybody who involves in the process. The theory argues that a person ’s knowledge,
attitude, sense of personal responsibility and intention to act specifies their behavior towards the
environment (Akintunde, 2017). This is where we most concentrate about because not having the
sense of responsibility can cost a lot not for the present but majorly for the future generations.
The human attitude of not understanding the urgency of the change and resistance to change can
divert the whole direction into a dark era of the environment. Having the understanding of external
forces that drive the change and the attitude against the adaptive change matters at all times.
That is where we should make sure that our sense of responsibility counts. Often people do think that
obeying the law makes them perfect and on the hand, the majority of people obey the law only when
government agent or somebody who is in charge of the situation is there. Having the ability to decide
what we have to do does not make any sense at all for these people. Most of the time end up ruining
the environment just because of not having the intention to act in a right way. When nature provides
us with the air we breathe is n’t it our responsibility to treat it back in a good manner.

Theory of Environmental Responsible Behavior (ERB)
While taking hours to decide what to wear on a Friday night or what kind of Pizza to order, we can
think a bit smarter way to take an act of kindness towards nature. This is where the Capsula Mundi
comes to take an action in order to create, prevent and protect what we have now before it runs out.
It is a challenging and innovating way if we look at it from the business view. At the same time, it is
the best possible option available in the market in order to prevent the ongoing soil pollution. Anna
Citelli and Raoul Bretzel Italian designers came up with this amazing idea. They respect the idea of
ecological ethics and work for a better world (Capsula Mundi, n.d). It is an egg-shaped pod where
the dead body goes in the same shape where they came to the world. The pod created in a form that
will be disposed of naturally within a short period of time. Instead of cutting a tree for a coffin, in this
way, we actually get a chance to be a tree after the death. A life after the death. Once buried the
organic casket slowly dispose and provide nutrition it gets from the body to the tree above it.
The science behind it is interesting too. It has made in a form that can contribute to the air with
Oxygen and reduce the carbon limit (Erizanu, 2018).

When it comes to external forces which creates the need for the adaptive change the socio-cultural
factor plays a vital role. The ancient way people used to do is bury the dead body in the ground.
It is not easy to change the way they have practised for thousands of years. Even though people going
to laugh at this idea eventually they will come to know the benefit of this process soon as everybody
wants to be remembered after their death. People earn to buy the best wooden made coffin and plan
their funeral beforehand. But for New Zealand green burying is not a new method. As for Eco-Friendly
Funerals New Zealand, they provide the option to buy a plot, bury the body as it is, in there with a tree.
As per them, it was designed to be a park where the loved ones of the departed person can come
and visit. But this should be planned before (Eco-friendly funerals, n.d). In Capsula Mundi it will be a
forest in the cemetery; the most possible way to explain it.

The Technological factor almost taken over everybody pushes for new innovation has made a massive
impact on this. Everybody needs an advanced way to do their things in a world craving for the best.
Since the environmental pollution and waste management are important things nowadays everyone
looks for an eco-friendly way to do their things, and here it goes, let’s go green on our funerals
(Ceo Pedia, n.d).

When it comes to dynamics of resistance to change, people are so much obsessed with their lifestyle
and status. They need to showcase their death to the society. In order to full fill their greed most of the
people spend so much of money and plan their funeral even before their death. So that, after they die,
the world can see what kind of a life they lived. Changing this mindset of people is very much
challenging since all these years they have seen this, agreed on this and rely on these type of method.
Because of this only the environments face these difficulties today. On the other hand, there are
people who want to take part in this but discouraged by the society. To overcome this, we can
encourage them by making the world aware of this, planning on good advertising and educating the
younger generation.
The Diffusion of innovation theory, commonly known as DOI theory by E.M.Rogers explains how over
the time people adopt change through a same social circle or situation.
the time people adopt change through a same social circle or situation.
It takes time for people to agree on and adopt new things. This happens over a time period and
depending on variables such as the product or the idea, innovator, target age group and the current
situation of the society. By understanding the characteristics of the target population we can easily
market the idea of this bio-plastic Capsula Mundi which going to be a huge benefit for the society in
the future. Not only that, a but also factors as,

relative advantage – how people decide the new idea is better than the earlier one
Compatibility – how well the new idea cope up with the sound values and knowledge of the people
Complexity – The way the new product works; whether it can be easily handled or not
Triability – How the new product can be tested before using it
Observability – In which way the new product gives visible results
When it comes to the adaptive capacity in the orientation to change, the world needs to understand
the urgency for the change first. It is obvious that people who are addicted to the traditional burial way
will not suddenly accept this change of tradition/ culture and will be rejecting it even before giving it a
try. So, in order to overcome this, we need to make the society aware of the advantages of this
eco-friendly burial system and the need for this particular change. Do we continue polluting the soil?
Do we continue to pollute the land? Do we continue to pollute the air? Don’t we have any affection
towards nature? Don’t we care about our future generation? By using eco friendly products for the
funeral we can easily overcome an obstacle. The same way if we go fully green on our funerals,
keeping the respect the same way for our departed loved ones the world will be a better place without
a doubt. Most importantly the feeling of satisfaction when we die thinking that we have done
something for the world while we live and we are going to do something for the world even after our
death; that would be an honorable feeling. A cemetery without concrete, Chemical or metal.
Anybody will not be responsible for cutting a tree for a coffin (Thomas, 2012). There will be no land
where we can not use for anything else. There will be no memorial stones with just words, instead,
there will be breathing trees which can bloom flowers and produce fruits.

Saving the planet concept is the main example for the Capsula Mundi when it comes to orientation to
change they have successfully overcome. A tree which takes decades to grow being cut down in
order to make a coffin, which doesn’t have that long life. After burying in the ground, the life given by
nature is going back to its true owners by providing its all nutritious stuff back into the environment.
Even though everybody talks about going green nobody takes the initiative to take an action where
they can do a difference. In a world where living people do not have enough space to build a house,
live a normal life; we dedicate a massive amount of land to dead people. Without taking this matter
further Capsula Mundi has provided the best solution for addressing the market in a proper way
(AS, Namratha & Sahithi, 2015).

As for the Icek Ajzen people behave in a way that structured according to behavioral believes,
normative believes and control believes. According to this theory when the right amount of control
given people do take necessary actions when the time comes.

If we can provide people with the right amount of the knowledge and the power to take control of
their decisions we can encourage people to go green in their real lives without being puppets of TV
commercials and internet heroes (Ajzen, n.d).
